BAGHDAD, Iraq - While covering the Iraqi response to ISIS militants, CBS Evening News foreign correspondent Elizabeth Palmer answered viewer s questions on the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley Facebook page from Baghdad.Question: Is there a way to measure how much the U.S. airstrikes are actually helping in the fight against ISIS Elizabeth Palmer reporting o yeezy slide n the fight against ISIS west of Baghdad, Iraq CBS News Elizabeth Palmer: There is no direct way.We have seen a direct correlation in Kobani over the past week between the increase in airstrikes and ISIS retreat. We also visited an area adidas samba adidas south of Baghdad where the Iraqi forces say that two airstrikes flattened very important ISIS s airforces niper positions...and that tipped the balance. Once the snipers had been killed, the Iraqi troops got the rest of the ISIS fighters on the run. But it s piecemeal evidence. And we know that US airstrikes use expensive high tech weapons against preemptive targets - either small groups of fighters, or for example, a few ISIS armed vehicles. It s a costly way to fight what is really an insurgent war.Question: I teach media law to college journalism students with an emphasis on press freedoms. Can you spend a moment talking about the impact the turmoil in Iraq is having on press freedoms there Elizabeth Palmer: There was no media freedom in Iraq even before ISIS. NAYPYITAW, Myanmar -- The what of President Obama s visit to Myanmar is simple enough: two regional summits complete with flags, big conference rooms and speeches. The why, however, of Naypyitaw, Myanmar s largely vacant capital city, is more elusive. The capital is 200 miles north of Myanmar s former capital of Yangon which used to be known as Rangoon , reports CBS News chief White House correspondent Major Garrett.Naypyitaw is the creation of the adidas yeezy military junta that ruled the country for decades. The generals announced it as the new capital on Nov. 6, 2005. hoka schuhe It s been a ghost town ever since. The grand parliament building is an exercise in under-used government excess. Naypyitaw s 20-l adidas originals ane superhighway, only blocks from the parliament building, is another unsettling and unoccupied extravagance. The roads are empty, so at least traffic is not a problem. The city exists for government workers, the military and police, and is one of the few cities in this country with uninterrupted electricity and rare white elephants -- brought in as a tourist attraction. And placed next to a Buddhist pagoda, a shiny understudy of the nationally revered Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. The government says more than one million people live here, but they re very hard to find. The market has more shopkeepers than shoppers and the reach for greatness seems misplaced, unlike the donkey carts and livestock that call this enigma of a city home. NEW ORLEANS - A Louisiana man told investigators he decapitated his disabled 7-year-old son because he had grown tired of caring for the boy, who had cerebral palsy and heart problems, needed a feeding tube and used a wheelchair, police said.Police Chief Scott Silverii said Monday that Jeremiah Lee Wright, 30, of Thibodaux waived his right to an attorney and confessed to killing Jori Lirette within a half-hour of being brought to the police station Sunday. Wright was booked with first-degree murder and held in lieu of $5 million bond. Detective Ricky Ross, a department spokesman, said Wright did not have an attorney.Silverii said the boy s feet and one hand also were cut off, recovered in several white plastic garbage bags. A preliminary autopsy indicated Jori also had been bludgeoned, he said. His head was left by the side of the road so the child s mother, 27-year-old Jesslyn Lirette, would see it when she came home, the chief said.Wright s only explanation for doing so was just that he wanted her to feel stupid when she saw the head, Silverii said. The killing was the first since 2008 in Thibodaux, a city of about 14,500 people. Silverii said the boy apparently w stanley cup as decapitated over the kitchen sink, which was sent to the Louisiana State Police crime lab along with a box of tools found nearby. Wright told investigators he began killing the boy about 30 minutes after Lirett stanley usa e had left Sunday to repair her stanley cup usa pickup truck so she could take Jori to a doctor Tuesday.Police Rdvd Friendly Fire May Have Killed FBI Agent
