Welcome to Katsusika Ward Union Exhibition!

　私たちは東京の葛飾区にある公立の小学校の美術教師です。毎年１月に葛飾テクノプラザを会場にして展覧会を開いています。公立小学校で、図画工作科の専科教諭が配置されている所は、今ほとんど東京都だけです。
　しかし、数年前から、東京都でも新卒の専科教諭を十分には採用していません。そのため、専門の美術教師は年々少なくなっています。
　図画工作科の授業時間数も２００２年からは高学年（５，６年）は年間で２０時間、中学年（３，４年）は１０時間も削減されてしまいます。
　私たちは、美術教育がこれからの子ども達にとって必要な基礎教科だと考えています。図画工作科は、子どもたちが幸せに、自分らしく、創造的に生きていくために大切な総合的な学習です。どのような職業であっても、美を意識して暮らすことが、これからの地球人の条件－「生きていく資格・力」とも言いえると思います。
　私たちは連帯して、これからも美術教育を推進していきます。

We are public elementary school art teachers from the Katsushika Ward of Tokyo.
In January, we hold an annual art exhibition at Katsushika Ward Techno Plaza.
An art education in which a specially trained art instructor is provided is available mainly only in Tokyo.
Concerning this art education, starting several years ago, the City of Tokyo has started to not hire new graduates fully trained to be art education instructors.
Therefore, the number of professional art teachers has decreased every year. Further cut backs are planned for elementary school art instruction hours.
Starting from the year 2002, for the upper grades (5-6), the present total of 20 hours and for the middle grades (3-4), the usual total of 10 hours will be reduced.
We think that art education is a fundamental instruction which our future children need.
This art education is an important integrated learning which teaches children to learn to creatively live in happiness. Whatever occupation one may hold, for the future on this earth, the ability to live with an awareness and consciousness of beauty is one human qualification that remains a living natural resource.
Therefore, with unified thought, we promote art education.
