Younger generations are increasingly turning online for news, including stanley cup aggregators like Apple a stanley cup nd Google News and social media. About 30% of Americans under the age of 30 are getting their news now from TikTok, said Margot Susca, assistant professor of journalism, accountability and democracy at American University.Susca, author of the new book Hedged, says social media offers something traditional news doesn t. An opportunity to engage, she said. It s an opportunity to comment, it s an opportunity to share. While the oldest Americans still tend to get their news from television networks, younger people from all parts of the political spectrum share adistrust of the media.Nearly 50% of young people say they don t trust national media, according to thePew Research Center. That lack of trust is a problem, according to DeMario Phipps-Smith with the News Literacy Project, a nonprofit organization that teaches about the important role trusted media outlets p stanley cup lay in a democracy. When we think about the information landscape we re in right now, how expansive it is, how almost instantaneous it is now and then when you think about the misinformation crisis, how important having good accurate credible information is to civic discourse, Phipps-Smith explained.SEE MORE: Scripps News Special Report: The Future of TVThe popularity of video-based sites like TikTok is causing mainstream news outlets to adapt with short digestible content.According toPew, nearly 90% of major news sources Sfhj Scripps Newsline: Experts discuss Biden s executive action on border control
An Ohio man is facing federal charges after prosecutors say he is connected to a $7 million jewelry heist at a store in Brookfield, Wisconsin in 2016.According to an affidavit obtained by TMJ4 News, City of Brookfield police responded to an overnight burglary at Treiber Straub Jewelers on West Capitol Drive on the morning of July 12, 2016.The burglars break-in to the jewelry store appears to be somewhat thought-out. According to investigators at the time, burglars cut phone and cable lines, removed light bulbs from lights outside the business and sprayed foam onto audio alarm systems. Only then did the suspects pry open the back door and step inside, according to the affidavit. The bu stanley cup rglars then proceeded to disable the interior alar stanley thermos m system and cut a hole into the jewelry s vault using sledgehammers and power tools. Inside, the suspects stole over $7 million in jewelry, diamonds, watches and other valuable items, the affidavit states.Surveillance video captured the suspects breaking into the business and walking about with the stolen goods, federal prosecutors said. Detectives with Brookfield PD later found blood in the employees womens restroom, and submitted it to the stanley termoska Wisconsin Crime Lab. The lab could not identify a suspect other than that the person was male.About a year before the burglary, Brookfield police received a call from Treiber Straub, who told them that surveillance cameras captured two people peering into the business with flashlights.
