March 2001 (Proposal in Vienna) The vision of the WCB, World Cup for Bands,
was proposed for the first time. The aim is to spread and develop Wind
Orchestras and Bands all over the world. It was decided to organize the
executive committee with all attendances' consent.
March 2002 (The 1st conference of the executive committee in Vienna)
It was decided to hold the 1st WCB in Vienna in 2004, the 2nd WCB in the USA in 2006, the 3rd WCB in Japan in 2008. The way of recruiting the participating bands and orchestras was discussed we started to find the place for the WCB in Vienna.
January 2003 (The 2nd conference of the executive committee in Vienna)
The way of judgement and awarding was discussed and the outlines of the
WCB were decided. It was also decided to hold the 1st WCB in University
of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
October 2003 (Starting to recruit for the 1st WCB) In spite of the chaotic
world situation, 18 bands and orchestras decided to take part in the 1st
WCB.
July 2004, the 1st WCB in Vienna was held and succeeded.
July 2004, the 1st WCB was held in University of Music and Performing Arts
Vienna, Austria, for the first time. Some countries gave up participating
because of the chaotic world situation, but 18 bands and orchestras took
part in the 1st WCB and their ardent performances extended for 2 days.
On the 1st day, a representative of Japan got the World Cup in U-18 class,
but representatives of China surprised us with their good performances.
In Top class, the jury was worried because all performance was on a high
level. All band had a possibility to win the World Cup.
Representatives of each country actively exchanged their friendship each
other through this WCB. And the conference by leaders was held at "Hoirige"
which is a pleasure-resort in Vienna, the leaders also exchanged their
friendship each other.
It is a fact that the all persons concerned had an uneasiness toward holding
the first worldwide contest. But we are "partners through wind music".
We could share the wonderful time friendly and make the WCB the most splendid
contest.
Holding the 2nd WCB in the USA in July 2006 was pronounced and this 1st
WCB in Vienna was closed.
